Do appraisers looking for people just starting out in the business look to the internet very much for their trainees or is it always better to try and contact people other ways?

Steve,

Contact them any and everyway you can think of. Rounding up a mentor is one of the most difficult tasks to starting out.

Use the search function on this site and search on the key word mentor or getting started, or whatever you can think of.

Also Doug Smith has some top notch posts. Search by author.

There is a lot of good info on this site, just dig.

Thanks David,

I've found out a lot of info on this website, a lot more than the they told me when I was taking the classes.

Hi Steve. I recently found an Appraisal company called Forsythe Appraisals Inc. Its based out of Little Canada MN. They do train and seem to be a good group of people. Check them out if you wish. They have offices all around the midwest. Good Luck

Thanks Jay,

I read another reply of yours talking about Forsythe. I called them today, it's very hard to wait around for a reply.

Steve,
It is better to establish personal relationships with other appraisers. I am sure that your course instructors or fellow students can provide you with leads. I am somewhat familiar with the Twin Cities area and I know that there are quite a few very good appraisers who would be quite willing to let you walk around in the snow doing field work while they sit in the warm car, good luck?

If I was looking for a trainee the person who called and ask to meet with me personally would get extra points. Taking me out to lunch...maximum points.

Plymouth, what state?

I'll need your age, marital status, physical stats... etc.

(jumped ahead of you on this one, Mike G!)

(just kidding Steve!)
