Is Trap Door a Safety Issue?

As suggested, I spoke with a member of the township building department and he said that if the staircase leading to the trap door is fixed and if there is a guard rail then it is acceptable by the town.

So, I believe this is a non-issue. I'm going to comment on the trap door in the report and hopefully i won't get any grief over it.

I don't think it would be a safety issue from looking at the pic. The OP said there was another entry to the main living area from outside. It looks like the door was constructed to close and could be walked on. I don't think I would want to put a lot of weight on it. JMO.

Unless there is proper head clearance, it was not built to code. Same with step and rise. there are minimums and maximums. I would call those conditions a safety issue.
