It's the Economy Stupid, no, its the Stupid Economy

Just saw a news article on my web browser where "Snooki" of the idiotic TV series "Jersey Shore" gets paid $20,000 to walk the red carpet at any event. Does anybody else feel the disconnect? Jennifer Lopez is going to be paid $12 million to be a judge on the next season of American Idol. Professional athletes are signing mega million dollar contracts. All this to be paid thru incessant advertising, which only raises the cost of most everything consumers buy. Our economic rubber band is being stretched tighter by the minute and it is only a matter of time. Me...I'm heading out to the store to buy some more beans and ammo before the prices go up.
Beans are already
going up in price. All food stuffs will rise as food is the first to show inflation followed by energy.Maybe we can trade a gallon of gas for a bag of beans.Wife wants to buy the dried beans and I want buy the canned. We may need a survey..:new_2gunsfiring_v1: Oh , store the ammo in a dry place next to the beans..

I personally like the dried black beans. My wife is Cuban and she makes the best...with a little bacon grease, onions, garlic, salt, pepper, a little vinegar, olive oil and sugar. We put them on white rice and just about everything, sorta like Americans use ketchup.

They eat a lot of beans in Cuba these days, because their meat ration is only 8 ounces per month. What gas is available comes from that thug Chavez in Venezuela. Two major things the Cubans are missing are guns and ammo, which is the main reason they are in the mess they are in.

I am one of those rare birds who has never eaten a "Big Mac"...ever. I have eaten chicken sandwich. I have drank their coffee while traveling. The problem being is that I buy it in Siloam Springs, and I am in Tulsa before the coffee is cool enough to drink. Sorry. I am not one of those Starbucks/McDonalds coffee freaks who drink 180 degree coffee. It's too hot. I want coffee about 120 degrees.

The dislocation of folks who were fairly secure in their job is more severe than I recall in the early 70s and the early 80s. The former was too many baby boomers dumped on the labor market at once. Once you got a job, it seemed that you could rely upon it being there for a while. The later, the high inflation, was choppy. House prices would fall a while then rebound and people seemed to be able to find jobs. If nothing else, you could go to work for a C store or as a waitress. If a cafe closed, you would find another very soon. Today, everyone is flocking to the chain franchises because of $1 menus, etc. Even Sonic stock isn't doing all that well. Mom & Pop Cafes are facing too much competition, high taxes, and low volume.
In the case above, there were probably 10 crews of carpenters in the area at any one time, and most wanted a place to sit down when they ate out. That's an extra 200 + people per week at $5 or more. $1000 makes a big difference in the budget. The owner has been especially hit hard after 2008.

There is a little "corner" restaurant I used to frequent regularly. Great food, super staff. But they have had to raise their prices so much I can no longer stop there as much as I would like. There just is no sense paying 8 bucks for 2 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon and toast, when I can get an egg Mc Muffin for a buck. I still stop in a couple times a month, but not like I used to. Their lot used to be packed, but now there is always an easy spot to get.

There is NO SENSE to pay 350 - 400 For an Appraisal when I can get a guranteed Hit the Number Appraisal for 175!!

Neither is good for any extended period of time. Be sure to get heirloom seeds and beans for planting so that if all else fails you'll have a fighting chance of growing your own food. Just sayin....

Here's just one fun website:

Is this a continuation of a late 1999 Y2K is coming thread!? :rof:

Really, if you are that certain things will totally tank, then short all the equities you can and PROFIT from your position.

Most likely, people are not convinced of their position and will likely sit on the sidelines, watching life happen.

Good luck to all.

My stars and moon watermelons were the best... saving the seeds. Turnips and peas are coming up....

Who would have ever thought gambling to be the answer? All my life I thought one had to work for a living. Sheesh, how stupid of me.

Gambling? Work takes many shapes and forms, do not confuse activity with accomplishment. You've been led down the wrong path if you think "hard" work is better than "smart" work.

You think appraising is more work than trading? Why, because trading pays much better?

For some of us living on our wits is only ½ a living... :)
