If you left your previous job to be self employed...did you pick appraising after you decided to be self employed or before?

I got injured to the extent I could not do what I did before in any meaningfull way. I spent quite a bit of time evaluating potential things to do with the rest of my life. Appraisal seemed to one of the few things I could handle physically, had the necessary income potential, the necessary flexibility wrt to schedule and work hours, and was a good match with my existing skill set and aptitude.
