Well, hopefully I will soon terrorize the roads west of the Mississippi unless I return to room temperature before then. My eyes have been a major problem for a year. Suddenly woke up with dimmed vision. Two DOs claimed my eyes were 20/20 and my cataracts were too small to be of problem. Finally, I went to a diagnostic clinic at the OU Health Center in Okla. City - the Dean McGee Diagnostic clinic. Old Dean (of the Kerr-McGee Oil Co.) had bad eyes, and I recall him as legendary during my years in OKC. We saw him in the old concourse underground downtown at coffee with an entourage of juniors in the company.
These doctors were MDs not DOs and mine said, "Heck yes, it's your cataracts."
I've now had both eyes "fixed" - one with a basic lens and to correct an astigmatism, my left eye needed a toric lens. 2 days since that surgery and I can see much better already. I can drive, read, etc.
So, my hope is to embark upon a long road trip where I clean up some family issues. First to Yuma, CO (not AZ) where I do a mineral search for a cousin who inherited minerals there. Then I want to see Hahn's Peak again... Then wander over to Dinosaur, CO and maybe stay a night in Rangeley. I'll make it south over Douglas Pass and into Grand Jct. I might even make it over the Grand Mesa. I'll visit a cousin near Delta, and on over Telluride country and check on my minerals in Montezuma County, visit several cousins of the few that remain in the area... only one being younger than me and that by only six weeks. Finally, back over the mountains to Fairplay, maybe via Weston pass... In Fairplay I have 3 lots to get into my name that were given to me from another cousin's estate. Then home via Canon City, Westcliffe, La Veta and on over the Apishapa Pass, a really cool place that I have not been back to since 1972. And I will hit I 25 and back across the plains. That's my hope.
Fixing my eyes has pumped me like mad. This has been a year and 12 times to the eye doctors to finally get some relief. One more visit and then another a month later to be checked to see if eyeglasses are even needed. Finally.
