Laser Measurer Purchase Advice

Thank you too all, especially to Marc. That's the way I'm leaning. I think I'll go pick up a Bosch today!
Two things: Don't hook up the little stringy thing that they provide to attach to it. It just gets in the way. And one other nice feature: With the Disto you had to press the button to turn on the red dot, then press again to obtain the measurement. Often a very awkward operation when holding a pad. With the Bosch, you turn it on and the dot is always on and always ready to produce a measurement. Just place against a wall and read the dimension, no button to press, or repress.

I use Home Depot or Goodman Lumber $20 100 foot metal tape measures. They get rusty after a year so I have to replace them. I am very old school. There is one advantage though with using old technology. It forces you to pause and look around/consider things more while you are winding up the tape!

I have never cut my finger with my Bosh - I can't say the same thing about my steel tape.

I use the Bosh because I couldn't find another Fat Max when mine died. Max was bigger but easier to manage.

Still rocking my old Ryobi from Home Depot.

FWIW, I use a Bosch GLR225 which works well most of the time, with the exception of extremely sunny days, then the tape comes out.

how about when it raining, the ground is frozen, the wind is blasting chill factor below o'. although i agree with a big house a tape is better. the laser is good if the house has a lot of corners, or bump outs, make it go faster before the fingers freeze and fall off.

ryobi is a little big, but easy to read.

I've been using an disto plus for many years, didn't realize how small these devices have gotten.

How's the battery life on the bosch units? I'm looking the GLM 50 c and the GLM 40 x, only reason I was thinking the 40 was possibly better battery life.

not with my D5. turn it on and the dot is there. do the other brands have cameras in them now?

FatMax was a toy. It is nice to see It is good to see the Bosch at reasonable prices now. Do Distos still cost more than laptop computers?

Mebbe. But it did what the Bosh does, and was large enough to grip so that the controls were easy to get to without fumbling.
