I received a flier from the Lincoln Graduate Center promoting a Manufactured Housing Appraisal Class. Based on the flier, the class is designed to meet the HUD education requirements for a course in the National Appraisal System using the NADA Guide. For an additional fee and the completion of a manufactured housing demonstration appraisal report, etc., we can receive a Board Certification in Manufactured Housing Valuation. My questions are:

1. Has anyone taken this course and did you consider it to be worthwhile?

2. Will we or are we required to have this certification?

3. Does anyone have this certification and does it generate additional business?

Any and all classes are good--although I am an education junkie (I take every NAIFA, some AI and some ASA classes whenever I can), I have not take the NADA course. If you are completing appraisals on manufactured housing that is personal property (no land involved) for a FHA loan, that class is required. But it is not required (although informative) for a manufactured home and land property (real property).

I've had it for almost 4 years. Immediately found that most involved with MH financing don't want to have anything to do with someone that actually knows what they're doing on those wobbly boxes.

I liked the course even if I was one of the few certified real estate appraisers there. Many attendees were from MH dealers. The best part is learning the N.A.D.A. system and getting the CD for the book value, which I use for every MH appraisal I do. Now, if I could just find a copy of the software program for that whole booklet appraisal form cuz there's just no way I'm going to do one by hand.

Maybe, just maybe, with Fannie tightening up, it might turn around on that designation.

I second Pam. It's a good class and no one wants NADA appraisals. If you need hours of CE it's a really good class. But I have yet to do my first NADA appraisal and I took the class ........ 3 or 4 years ago??

This 2-day class comes to Denver next weekend (3rd-4th) , and I got the advert-flyer and have been giving it consideration for several weeks now. Although CO does not show on list of states acknowledging the class.....be sure....it DOES give us C.E. credit for it ! , as I asked a prime member of our Board at their Sept. meeting 2 weeks ago. As this market has been so slammed this year, and since I have not done a MH appraisal since about April....I wonder just what the future brings. While I would like to know the NADA approach better, and attain more true cost data for MH's, I am not a dealer/seller of such homes and my greater interest is in appraising the EXISTING land and home property which has "matured" a little.....not the new purchase package. Does anyone know of their instructor's discussion and explanation of the 1004c form ? Perhaps, on Monday I'll give their # a call, pose my ??, and give it all a closer consideration. Are there any Forum participants who may have been recent attendees of this class held in Aug. and Sept. in AL, NV, ID, UT, MD, NM, OH ? Please share your experiences....soon.

Took the course in 2022 here in Phoenix Has proved to be an asset with new Fannie Guidelines & a side note Freddie SUPPOSEDLY will NOT Finance ANY Manufactured Home that does not have a FHA Approved Foundation. However due to AZ being third in construction defects. (Colorado is first Nevada Second) I now put in that all Manufactured Home Installation & Foundation questions can be answered by the Department of Manufactured Homes @ 1110 W Washington St Phoenix AZ Phone # Fax # As all Manufactured Homes are required to abide by the laws prescribed by this department.

Took the course in 2022....
So does that answer the age old question if there will be Appraisers around in 20 years?

Just shows that I like to stay ahead of things. This mean I got enough CE till 2022? Had a Underwriter want my updated license because loan won't close prior to my expiration of current license 10/31 2002

Took this class from Lincoln Graduate as part of my 90 hours for registered. There was a pretty slimy guy in there from a mobile home dealer that went all the way to day 5 before the instructor told him "ummm you do realize you can't do the appraisals on your own deals, right?"

Never saw that guy in class again..... :D
