Literally starting over at 56 investment tips wanted

At 56, consider getting a dot gov type job like at the Assessor’s Office. I don’t know what the pay in VA but it’s a $65k job out here to start plus another 20-30k in benefits. Probably $80-100k to start given your appraiser background. Typically, you get a cost of living increase every year along with a step-up in pay which, in CA, is commonly 5% per year for 5 years; so about an 8% increase in pay, at current inflation, for five years. Once you reach the maximum of your pay class, move to a higher paying class and start the process over.

Now, here’s the super benefit of a dot gov job for someone like you. Once you reach 50, you can contribute $32,500 per year in to a tax deferred 457b which increases to about $35,000 once you hit 60. Put in 10 years, and you will have $400-600k in your 457b even if you just invest in index funds. At ten years, your retirement pay will likely be 20-25% of your highest salary so maybe $2-2.5k per month there. Add in social security and the retirement investments you already have and you’re golden.

As a large scale institutional investor, people like myself command authority and respect. The little people aren't usually able to get into IPOs the way that I am. So don't be jealous fellas, I'm not quite living on easy street but I'm on my way lol

I requested access to only a few more I guess one is better than nothing

My wife bought $20K of SPCX, my oldest daughter probably more ... but she won't say. The price went up fast, but then started sputtering up and down - and down further. My wife caught one block at $160 after it had gone up to $176. She had no problem buying into her 401K account. A lot of potential buyers I am sure, made the mistake of setting a limit near $135 and didn't stand chance. I would have set the initial limit at $152 - $155 and that would have been perfect. But, I didn't buy, as I am uncertain whether they can really solve the cooling problem:

"In summary, SpaceX has made substantive progress in designing a solution tailored to the physics of space, but full resolution of all cooling-related problems will require successful prototyping, testing, and iteration—likely targeted for demonstrations around 2027–2028. The approach is promising but not yet proven at the intended scale. If new details emerge from SpaceX or related announcements, the assessment could evolve quickly." (Grok 6/12/26)

I don't know when the bull market ends, but when it does end, I think SpaceX is a top candidate to be one of the companies that loses 90% of it's value.

You know, like Intel, Oracle, Amazon, Apple. Cisco, etc. I think it probably does survive and eventually becomes a huge business, like a decade or two down the road.

When "value" is based on a sliver of the whole, whether the value of all of SpaceX based on 4% of its total stock, or the value of existing homes based on recent sales of less than 3% of the total, stuff can happen.

why are so many big guys so hyped up on it then? maybe if they all tell each other how much they love it it'll never go down as long as they believe what they think.
