My $.05 worth. ($.02 has been outstripped by inflation.)

I'm in a rural area with only about six appraisers county wide. About ten years ago we started getting together for breakfast at a local restaurant on the first Friday of the month. Its still going... sort of. Some of us do get together for about an hour on some first Fridays. Work load, vacation and other things on the schedule seem to get in the way sometimes.

I'm sure it has helped all of us in one way or another. Its a good way to remined each other of the pitfalls that are out there, the lenders to be wary of, the market trends in the area, etc. We do quite a bit of phoning back and forth on things, and maybe more so since we started the Friday Club.

I'm sure we will continue to get together from time. Try it, it might work.

When I first started appraising my dad and another freind/appraiser were organizing a local chapter of one of the Organizations. Meetings were big one month and no one the next month. I attended as a guest but their was little meat and like someone said most appraisers were to independant. My dad finally gave up and quit scheduling meetings. Like many it started with a bang and just fizzled out.

However I like the idea of a breakfast or something informal. Just don't see it ever happening around here.

Our local SRA's used to get together once a month. The merger and licensing killed that. Most of us have dropped out of AI due to extreme financial requirements.
I would get the guys together for lunch from time to time. It was enjoyable, but if I didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. I might try putting out the word to Appraisal Section members to meet somewhere.
