Local gov agency worse than hoa, with fines.

How did you feel about the "cracked driveway" fine? Seems like harassment to me, almost "Boston tea party" worthy.
If I lived in that area, any of those fines would seem Boston tea party worthy. Apparently they continue to elect people that endorse this type of extortion. Happens a lot in some states.

But did you see the crack? I didn’t. Was it enough that someone might trip on it? All Concrete cracks. They must have some sort of standard that was exceeded.

Regarding Tom's thread title Local gov agency worse than hoa, with fines.

I remember an instance several years ago where an historic district had a strict code of what color the exterior of houses could be. The properties were not in a restricted subdivision, no HOA, but was left up to the city to enforce. One homeowner decided she wanted purple shutters, they were not an obnoxious purple, but they were purple. All hell broke loose. A self-appointed militia of Stalinist Nazi Gladys Kravitz volunteers made a federal case out of it. They won at city hall and decided to ramp it up a few more notches. The begin sneaking in people's back and side yards to look for violations. They got 2 more for color violations on the exterior trim. And people wonder why I'm an extreme libertarian.

Well, people have a choice, Mr Libertarian, and nobody forces anyone to buy in a historic district or in an HOA- these people know the rules and regulations when they buy, then later decide to violate them. Freedom is not only doing whatever the heck we want and to hell with anyone else. Freedom is the right to choose to buy in an area with no regulation, a few regulations, or a lot of regulations. The trade off for the regulations is pretty landscaping, no run-down boarded up houses or a zillion cars in a driveway, and noise etc.

For people who want no regs, they can buy in an area with no zoning or lax zoning and little or no code enforcement. Some of those areas are nice, others become riddled with meth houses, people cutting up single-family houses into multi-family with cars parked all over, rusing vehicles on a front lawn, noise all night etc- good luck getting any of it addressed.

So suspicion of a shutter color violation gives a self appointed enforcement officer the right to trespass? I stand corrected then, you're right.

You KNOW they were sneaking into the back and side yard how?

The woman who painted her shutters purple KNEW the color restrictions when she bought the house. She could have bought in an area with no color restrictions. All she had to do is repaint the shutters to an approved color. They are outside her house what fc ing difference would it make to her to do that -

Again, freedom is the choice to make decisions, and our decisions have consequences.

Why are you not making the same arguments in the illegal immigration threads?

nowhere in the constitution does it allow the gov to 'fine' people...
