Locked files.......am I missing something?

Nancy:

I award you the semi-guru title with no qualms! Whether you think you deserve it or not.

I have been wanting to do this!!

Despite my assertation that when you release a report from your very own possession, whether electronically or through paper medium a crook can (and probably will  ) alter it to suit themselves 8O  I have held the opinion that if someone is going to alter one of my reports there is very little I can do to prevent such behavior, BUT I don't have to make it easy for them  !

It is my stated goal to help keep honest people honest, the real crooks can't be helped.

Like many of the rest, the 'knowing how to' part, combined with a healthy and JUSTIFIED  degree of fear (I had a similar experience to Larry's) keeps many of us from attempting such changes. But now since we DO have the fix I guess I am just going to have to LOCK those puppies! Thanks again

Seems to me that locking the file prior to sending it not only makes it more difficult for the crooks in this biz to change your appraisal.... it also makes it much easier to defend yourself should the need arise plus a lot less likely that that need would arise. This is enough for me to always lock the pdf file prior to sending it.

Sent my pdf file to my client, got back a message they received it and no screams! So again thank you very much Nancy!!! That is the instructions I have been looking for. I do handle the Nova Day one just like I did the 16 bit Day One. I save my .pdf file to a specific folder on my desktop called very creatively PDF instead of the folder than Nova said to use. So if I discover a typing error or I forgot a page in my report, I go back to Nova, make my correction and save it in my little desk top folder (I use the icon for a pear tree to remember tha P stands for partridge in a pear tree, which stands for pdf--I got to have fun while I am doing this!). Then when I am ready to email and looking for my attachment I just click on the tree, find my file and away it goes! Hey, this is fun--anymore know any more computer tricks??? A real crooked receiver is going to have to work very hard to make any changes, the same as mine data (which has been done for years (if not centuries) as long as written reports have been submitted to a client) thats why there are little chips on ancient stones that experts can't decipher--they are changed appraisal reports.

Gee, Jo Ann...

I've sent out some narrative reports in multiple copies that I've considered charging for by the pound, but the mental picture you've created with your "little chips on ancient stones" really made me giggle. Can you imagine hauling a full narrative down to the post office!!! 8O

NANCY! :( O.K. , I did it and it worked...checked all the boxes except "No Printing"......But ya' know, I don't see any little GOLD KEY! :(

Charlotte,

Good for you!!

It's a
very small, teeny tiny, eensy beensy key. I have to either push WAAYYY back from the computer screen or else take off my glasses and get really, really close to see it!

Don't know what else to tell you. :?

May I politely refer you to my disclaimer above?

Charlotte,
May I politely refer you to my disclaimer above?

O.K. Nancy, Thanks...you're officially disclaimed! I just want to see the gold key after all this stress
