I have a 1931 era log cabin for sale, 1600 sq. ft. local history states that this was a club house for the Yankees when in St.Pete, Fl. many of the legends used this building to recreate. Also, I uncovered about 30 paintings that Walt Disney painted when he was in the area scouting for the Magic Kingdom. He stayed with the owner of more that 50 yrs.These pictures have been photographed with a digital camera. We would appreciate an appraisor assisting us with finding a possible value.

You might be able find an appraiser from the St. Pete area to appraise the real estate (log cabin) but the paintings etc would be considered personal property and most of us, on this forum, do not appraise personal property. I would suggest the local yellow pages for THAT.

Be very careful about the Disney Paintings. Disney never gives up it rights to anything that is Disney. You may have them in your possession, but they may well belong to the Disney Machine. I have always had a very keen interest in Disney because he came from the KC Mo area and I have a friend who worked for Disney for years in this country and Europe with their horses. I also have a business partner who work for Disney for 20 years as well.

As for the log cabin, find an appraiser who does log cabins. I do a large number in Wisconsin. I had the luck a year or so ago to do the oldest standing log cabin in the State over on the Mississippi River. It was in a divorce case. Had been used by trappers in its early life, then as a farrier/blacksmith business as the area grew. It was in keen condition and neither party wanted to give it up to the other. Even had to do there dog and cat in the appraisal.

A word of caution.

I would also suggest you be very careful about broadcasting that you have these paintings or sketches in your possession. Keep them in a very safe place, get an appraisal done as soon as possible, get them authincated, and get some insurance on them right away.

Now this raises an interesting point to a Disney collector and to the Disney Corp. Just what would someone would pay at auction to get their hands on this property. Does the land and building have value as a whole or in part? What is the value of the land if the building is removed? What is the value of the building to a collector with out the land? What is the value of the art work in the building? Many questions would need to be asked and answered.

You have a very complex appraisal assignment for someone. You may have a lot of value or you may not. If you decide to sell, I would like a crack at doing the auction for you. We would no doubt market the property world wide.

Mortimer the Mouse I understand was the first mouse before Mickey that Mr. Disney developed in KC before moving to LA.

Anyone care to say how they would approach this assignment if it were offered to them?

As far as the dog and cat, they are just like any other livestock or personal property when it comes to value. You have four approaches to value. One sure way to establish the superior value of the two is turn them loose together. Since it appeared the dog did not like the cat and the cat did not like the dog.

No set starting point. You are right there are tons of variables in doing log cabins. Not a simple assigment. Not only the construction, but the location as well.

You have also added in the Disney Question as well.

so, now for the rest of the story. I disassembled the cabin and have it stored in a cool, dry space. The pictures on the logs are still there, this will confirm it is rebuilt properly of course, and so, the pictures are on digital film and in a binder. The buyer may also want me to rebuild it. Like any puzzle though, with a picture, one can build many things.
I checked the local yellow pages and felt this project was outside their normal scope of business. This cabin has made the news here in Tampa/St. Pete several times as it was offered for free to anyone. All the people you thought would want it passed it by. I may see if anyone with a sense of local history might now want it.There are several historical groups I would love to sell it to.
