Hi Forumites. I realize this doesn't exactly belong in the General Discussion forum, but, I wanted to make sure it was seen. I am buying a house in North Carolina and would like to get it appraised, as not only is this area new to me, but I pretty much retired from appraisal years ago. It is probably a pretty simple to moderately complex assignment, but not off the charts in terms of difficulty. It is a cash purchase, and I just want to make sure we're in the ballpark and that I haven't missed anything major. Thank you in advance!
David

I am in Transylvania county NC. I live outside of Brevard, NC in Pisgah Forest. I had difficulty finding an appraiser. There were only two that covered Transylvania county. Macon county is to the east of me. How close to Franklin are you?

BTW - I retired January 2017, sold my house in Carlsbad, CA and moved to Pisgah Forest, NC.

Thanks for writing, Randolph! I appreciate it. We were forced to close our spa in Irvine. We put everything into storage facilities, put our Laguna Woods house up for sale and got in a car and drove here about a week and a half ago. The house we made an offer on is about two or three miles from downtown Franklin. How have you been?

I have not been to Franklin but I have been to Highlands. A friend has a sister who bought in Franklin. It is a rural town, smaller than Brevard. Franklin is in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the foothills of the Great Smokies.

My wife and I love it here in North Carolina and the Pisgah Forest. Fall here is wonderful. Transylvania county has over 250 waterfalls and is classified as a rainforest. I measured 93 inches of rain last year from my weather station. I measure 47.08 inches of rain year to date. I don't miss California.

Lots of wildlife. We have white squirrels here along with regular ones. We got bears too! I have a video of a bobcat caring a full grown deer by the neck crossing our drive way at 3:00 AM last year.

How soon do you close on your house?
