Actually, the beauty of ITBS is it's cross referenced data. If I have the serial number and the Certification labels are missing, they can find it, or vice versa.

The lender is requiring you to get this? If so, I'd charge them the additional amount that ITBS is going to charge you for the letter. Personal preference, but I'd rather spend the $50 (I think that's the cost for inquiries.) than belly crawl under a 1985 manufactured unit with my flash light. :)

My understanding is they have the data if it's June 1976 or newer in most cases.

Thanks For The Info, I Will Check

Bucket, you often can find the serial number on old Deeds of Trust or from the DMV title, depending on how far back the DMV records go. I wouldn't belly crawl to get it off the frame for less than $100 (with no guarantee), and I am also a Home Inspector, put me on my belly and I crawl like a reptile.:)

thanks, this is a good forum site. i will come more often.

The serial number is typically (not always) on the end member on the outside of the member on the end where the tow hook was attached, you would only have to remove a little exterior siding to find it. Better idea is to provide the lender with the name of local installers and have them go on this quest since it really isn't the appraiser's problem and is outside the scope of the original assignment.
