One of my buddies who works nearby e-mailed and ask if my alamode mapping was working. Apparently since 9/2/03 he has not been able to download any maps.

I also can not download any.

We both use Road Runner Cable internet.

anybody else having a problem.

Same here. I'm not sure Road Runner is the problem, although I have Road Runner also. At first I thought it was due to a change in my virus software not letting the map come through. However, the message I get says the servers are down. Usually this only lasts a few minutes to a few hours. I'll check the WinTotal group on Yahoo and see if anyone else is complaining.

I just got off the phone with ALAMode support.

It seems the mapping company (Vincinty.com) was purchased by Microsoft and the IP address has been changed.

It also seems that ROADRUNNER and EARTHLINK are the few service providers that can no longer access ANY of Microsoft's owned services such as VICINITY.COM. Therefore the only solution ALAmode tech support could come with is that all of the ROADRUNNER and EARTHLINK customers flood tech support at THOSE companies to get them to fix this problem very quickly. They need to find a way to change the ISP addresses or something so we can once again have access to this very important site.

The other solution is that I switch to ACI. I cant change cable service providers because I dont have a choice in the matter. As far as complaining to these people, what would I say, I dont know what the real problem is.

Maybe alamode needs a new map company.

This sucks, there can be NO PRODUCT LOYALTY once they stop providing the service.

This gets worse because cant get flood maps either!

It was not really ALAMode's problem. They didn't stop providing the service. People without ROADRUNNER or EARTHLINK were able to get maps all day long. It was a problem between Microsoft and ROADRUNNER.

At the height of the problem I was not able to reach ANY site owned by Microsoft, that meant MSNBC, MSN, HOTMAIL, even Messenger was affected.

ALAMode responded by re-routing the map servers to download the requested maps to their site and then to the requestor. They acted as quickly as they could once they understood where the problem was originating.

They responded by far better than the response I got from ROADRUNNER. ROADRUNNER's response was "well the Internet is a recreational activity and we will not be responsible for any loss in business."

You can get maps from other sources....MAPQUEST for one. If you are able to get Flood Maps through WinTotal you can also get them with your account from InterFlood. So NO BODY should have been non-productive just because the Microsoft servers were screwed up.

if you are 'cloning'
anotate the old map.
dont delete and get new.

trust me this works very well
