There is a great seminar titled, Appraising for Alternate Uses: Life Beyond Lending. The focus is on truly identifying a client's problem and crafting a solution that addresses that problem.

I taught the seminar a couple of weeks ago for the local AI chapter, and I really love the course material. It challenges and teaches appraisers to really go through the problem identification process and to think about life outside of Planet URAR

I really think that over the next few years, more and more assignments are going to involve things that "circle around in our heads". The people who will be able to take advantage of these will be the ones willing to take on definitional issues, as well as figuring out what the client actually needs.

I couldnt agree with you more. Identifying and tackleing the problem is something that takes time and understanding. Those that are willing will be successful and those that cant or arent will have a much harder time.
