Maryland Commission versus Appraiser Bias

Hmmm... Quite a can of worms you're opening. So if the majority of the people living in the city are female, should the majority of the appraisers be female? Or if it is a retirement area, should the appraisers be old? How about bias of housing...
If the majority houses are twin homes, should the appraisers be living in twin homes. Or if it's in low rent area, should the appraisers live in a low rent area?

Bottom line. The appraiser should be judged on its report.

I agree with your bottom line but we need more diversity in the profession anyways.

Women are not concerned about gender bias and we have adequate female representation in the profession.

Elderly are not concerned about bias towards elderly people and we have adequate representation of older appraisers in the profession.

The profession is equally open to all people of every color. You can lead a horse to water...
Do we need more Is Caucasian or Asian people in sports?

It's one of the lowest cost professions to get into.

Supervised experience requirement is a major hurdle for minorities. It is not equally open.
I'm calling bs. I don't know of any appraiser that wouldn't hire someone because they're black.

Would you refuse to hire someone because they're black?

It's not they are not going to hire someone because they are black. It is not about racism.

They are going to hire family first, then friends, then maybe friends of friends, then it is most likely someone from their community.

It's a major hurdle.

My 1st job is an appraiser had half a dozen appraisers there, none of them were relatives or friends of friends. I didn't know anybody. And none of my relatives nor any of my friends ever wanted to be an appraiser, lol.
