Idiotic Bureaucracy .......is the name of my new Band!

Has anybody come across any really good arguments supporting the assertion that there is bias in appraisals?

I don't have anything against providing a kind of security blanket to minorities who fear appraisers are going to be biased in appraiser their home. But look at all the "high level" [read expensive] effort expended on this when it would be much better spent on improving the regulations and mechanics of appraisal.

Of course I suppose, the only thing the higher ups are really competent at is developing simplistic courses for preventing non-existent bias. Now, that must be a very easy task for them.

It's all politically correct garbage. The only study that has been done has disproven that there is any bias. I hope somebody sues Amrock, TAF, and the AI.

They claim there's bias in appraising because people will get two appraisals on the same house with a 20% difference in value. They assume the difference is due to racism when really the It's because valuations are opinions and a significant number of appraisers have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

They are only allegations, no proof or it would have already been provided. All courses developed require approval, those who provide approval may lack the experience, knowledge and supporting factors to prove "Bias" and the course work would therefore lack credibility, IMO.

accuse others of what you are guilty for is rule number 9

Are you referring to the study where they made conclusions about appraiser behavior by looking at AVM results rather than actual appraisal results? It would have been very interesting to see how well appraisers adopted that AVM-based study if the results had been different

I am not so sure what was done proves anything. I also don't think the aggrieved will accept those results because they(minorities) have rightfully or wrongly concluded Systemic Racism exists. People, in general, will find excuses for their failures. Little Johnnies Teacher calls his Mom because he failed to turn in the assignment. Johnie tells mom the Dog ate my homework.

So another point that will be made is and will be highlighted is the Racial Composition of the Authors of this study. If it was a bunch of Old White Guys, you might as well throw it in the trash.

Bureaucracy rarely needs facts. Just axes to grind.
