I used a laser for years, and to me the two critical features for use in residential appraisal are (1) a good sight mechanism, and (2) the add/subtract feature. I have an A5 that has got to be +15 years old and is still going strong

I've had a D5 for 15+ years. The only thing that broke is the battery door tab. Once a year battery replacement and a new piece of duct tape works fine.

Get what you can afford but realize you will be using it for 15+ years so get the best one you can. They are worth the investment. I wouldn't go below the E7500i.

My A3 is 16 yrs old. Cracked body, scratched screen and never misses a beat with daily use. Trying to find the "red dot" on sunny days and measuring long outdoor distances are the only complaints. That is why I still carry a 100' tape. Between the two, I can measure any house.

I realize that I will be shamed for still pulling tape.

I also have a laser (D2) and a tape measure. I use both on just about every house and it saves time trying to find something to bounce the laser off of and then subtract. To each their own I guess.

As some of you folks, I have trouble seeing the red dot over 15 to 20 feet on sunny days. Have any of you tried the green glasses they sell? Does it help?
I have the same question on green laser dot, if they are more visible? WOW, just noticed I am a "Freshman Member" since 02/05/2002 :sneaky:
