Coming in March to Alton, IL (outside of St. Louis) in March and soon to the Chicago area (details as they develop):

The NAIFA is pleased to announce a new certification that real estate appraisers can obtain which has the potential of helping you excel in field of reviewing appraising by earning the certification.

The NAIFA Certified Appraisal Review Program enhances the ethical, educational, and professional experience standard through a continuing education component in the certification requirements. All of the Certified Appraisal Review educational courses are available through the NAIFA and administered by approved instructors.

The courses:

(3/12/2008) 4.6A--Reviewing Residential Appraisals

(3/13/2008) 4.6B--Advanced Review Techniques

These courses are being held at the Holiday Inn-Alton Parkway, 3800 Homer Adams Parkway, Alton, IL 62002

Requirements for Certified Appraisal Reviewer:
a) Completion of educational courses 4.6A and 4.6B;
b) Submission of an appraisal review demonstration report;
c) Appraiser must have license status of Certified Residential or Certified General;
d) NAIFA member in good standing ("member" status NOT limited to only designated members);
e) Commitment to a continuing education program or exam.

Please do verify on your own, but I believe that these courses are also approved for CE credit in MO, IL, WA & VA.

Instructor: Mr. Steve Coull, IFAS, DAC, Certified Review Appraiser, is a Sr. Instructor for the NAIFA and he developed and produced the Review Certification courses.

Costs: MEMBERS of the NAIFA, ASA, NAMA, IRWA, IAAO, ASFMRA and AI (proof of membership in good standing must accompany registration)...
$125 each course OR $225 if registering for both courses.
NON-MEMBER: $145 each course OR $265 for both courses.

You will be notified once registration has been received. Appraiser License numbers will be required the day of class to ensure proper credit by your state regulatory agency.

Payment: Mail your check (NO credit cards or Cash; payment must be made in advance...NO payment the day of the class) to...Frank L. McAtee & Associates, Attn.: Elizabeth A. Kern, IFA; 1623 Main St., Alton, IL 62002.

Include with payment: Which course(s) you are registering for; if you claim the "Member" pricing, INCLUDE proof of current membership; your E-Mail address; your mailing address; both your telephone and fax numbers.

You may visit our national website (www.NAIFA.com) and click-on "Education" on the homepage for more information regarding these courses.
You may have to register (similar to registering for the AF) at the site, but such should not impede your progress!

AND...we are planning on offering these courses in the Chicago area soon...dates (etc.; costs may differ) to be announced soon. I anticipate that the courses will be offered at other locations later in the year.

Thank you!

Lee Lansford, IFA
Illinois State Director 2008--NAIFA

Course Approval

I have been informed by Elizabeth Kern, IFA, (see my post above) that application has been made for CE credit in both IL and MO. The website for the NAIFA lists VA and WA as states that have already granted approval. As in everything, if you have any questions whatsoever regarding the approval status, check with your (including, but not limited to, the 4 states already mentioned here) state's appraiser regulatory agency.

Plan on taking it regardless of CE credit; seems worthwhile to me, plus I want to me Mr. Coull

Good!

I'd like to meet you...but I suspect that my schedule will not permit me to travel to Alton.

Lee,

I would take the courses if they were in Virginia, if you were teaching them. Just for the record......Virginia does not pre-approve any CE courses. CE is granted for any course as long as it covers the basic subject matter described on the Appraisal Board web site. The only courses that Virginia will pre approve is pre-license courses.

Lee - any plans for taking the program on the road to New York?

Don, thanks for the information! I now understand why the courses are already "approved" in VA!

As of this moment...I don't believe so.

BUT, I would not be surprised that if later this year the courses are presented in NJ...perhaps at the annual NAIFA NJ State Conference which is held in (as best I remember) Atlantic City.

As I become aware of the courses being offered anywhere in the USofA, I will post the info in the Education forum.

Unfortunately.

Lee - any plans for taking the program on the road to New York?

The IFA has lost its presence in NY. After exchanging e-mails with Lee last year and doing some research, the organization is practically extinct around the NY metro area. We should bring it back Mike.

Hi Lee, has the instructor changed for the March course? I see it as someone other than Steve Coull listed on the site.
