Although I would counter that some of the "native" locals here (that I have met and grown to know/become friends with over the past 12 yrs) in the Tampa Bay area may argue with you, Peter, I don't really disagree.

That being said, I was sincere in saying I appreciated your follow up about the "fur piece" ... I honestly never heard that before in my life and, without your follow up commentary, would have had NO idea what the H*!! that meant. I wasn't being facetious/cynical :peace:

I didn't think you were being either. "Fur piece" isn't something one's wife wears to the club for Sunday brunch - it's a relatively long distance (which distance is considered "long" - or not - depending on the mode of travel. This language/accent thing is a pretty interesting study (and not just in the South). Probably like speaking some Scandinavian language, to a non-native speaker, all the accents sound very similar, but for someone growing up on butter and salt in her grits, there's a world of difference between the speech of someone from Coastal Carolina and someone from Atlanta or Jackson.

I definitely agree. It's something that has interested me since I was a kid. It's one of the reasons I became an exchange student and lived in Germany for 2 years.
Languages and accents are something I find very interesting
