Dee Dee,

I have done several of these for lenders, agents, etc. They can be quite fun because questions are often asked that you havent thought about in along time. Usually, the first question asked is something like; "so, how much per foot is a house in (pick your area) worth?"

I always take enough copies of a completed appraisal (usually one ordered by their company) so that everyone in the room has a copy. I always find out in advance if they have the room or capability for an overhead presentation. If your dont have the projector, you can usually rent one. Find out what they want to know. I have done many classes on simply how to measure a home.

I would talk to some underwriters or LO's that you know and ask them, in your area, what are the top 10 things that they have to ask appraiser's to comment on or explain in more detail. Then, be sure to address those items to the LO's and where you would find such information on an appraisal.

Good Luck

It opened my eyes to the need of educating our loan officers. Yes there will still be the jerks, the idiots, but perhaps we can change the attitude of our customers one Lo at a time

My sentiments exactly.
My experience is beginning to be that the more they understand what my job is the easier it is to communicate when we run into a problem property. I can give them a 'heads up' in advance if we have an ugly appraisal to let them know what might happen with the underwriter. If I do that they're prepared and don't immediately assume that it was something I did wrong, and best of all they don't panic.
A couple of my clients are new to having their own mortgage company, and they seem to be the most receptive to listening to me and calling me just to ask questions.
I'm more than a little anxious to see how this meeting goes. If it is succesful I'll be tempted to offer all of my clients a chance to sit down and do something similar with their LO's. Hey, it can't hurt to ask and the worst that could happen is they say they're not interested.
