I keep seeing cable TV ads for a local "Neighorhood Housing Service" that offers the general public assistance of all sorts - education seminars on selling and buying, low cost rehab loans, referrals for structural problems (engineers, etc.), revitalizing areas, etc.

I'm wondering if they might be a source for appraisal business. On the other hand I'm reluctant to contact them as I suspect all assignments
with be your typical urban blight nightmare such as FHA 203K types.

Anybody out there have knowledge or experience with these types of
organizations ?

Joe,

The SRA I worked under in 1983 became involved with an organization with similar purposes, and he worked for free.

About 1990, I made myself known to the local Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Appraised a few vacant lots for free. Got tired of assuming that kind of responsibility for no pay, and little thanks.

Regards,

Tom
