I know this has been discussed before, and it seems that there is a disparaging connotation to it. I have been using words like Craftsman/Contemp, for example. I'd like to start using Neo-Eclectic or Neo-Traditional, but I'm not sure how that would go over. I'd like to use it in a non-disparaging way for a good quality eclectic 2.5 story mcmansion. Or should I just stick with Contemporary.

No point in using terms no one will understand when a common one will accomplish the task.

Never heard of it, sounds like a made up style.
McMansion I've heard, but never used in a report.
I don't thing slang is legit. :icon_lol:

Neoclassical - I use this one.

Google neo-eclectic. It looks like most homes in this area.

Sounds like some appraisers need to do some reading. "Neo-Eclectic" is a recognized term which accurately describes a house design. It appears in A Field Guide to American Houses, a recognized text which defines house styles. "McMansion" falls under the category of "Neo-Eclectic". Given the fact that the UAD spec does not allow a "design" description of "2 Story" it is necessary to find a legitimate, recognized, and descriptive name for these relatively indescript 2 story houses being built today. "Neo-Eclectic" is very well described in Wikipedia.

If you don't agree, please suggest a UAD compliant description for a 2 story house built last year with no obvious recognized style...

Most home styles are called "traditional" by appraisers and realtors alike. Now that "traditional" is taboo, Neo-eclectic fills the void.

clap clap clap clap....an appraiser who actually understands that architects and such do use these terms and we appraisers need to understand just a tiny little bit about it....it makes us look much less ignorant.

I have never seen a listing of a home that is listed by a Realtor that states anything but 1-story, 2-story, 1.5-story and the occasional Cape COD, ranch, raised ranch or bungalow. If that is how the locals describe it that is how I describe it and no one has ever questioned me yet.
