Question-----
I took the now old exam for Certification yesterday and of course- failed. I wasn't as prepaired as I thought I was.

Any thoughts on the new exam to be in place starting 01-01-2008? Since I was approved for the exam before 12-31-2007 I am grandfathered in on not being required to have the additional education or additional appraisal points. I hope I can be grandfathered on the exam also.

I am concerned with the new exam's content. According to the testing service, the new test will take 6 hrs. for CR and 8 hrs for Gen.

Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.:new_newbie:

If you weren't prepared for the old exam you better get 10 times more prepared for the new exam.

The best information that I can accertain is that the new exam is very similar to an exam you would take with the AI.

I am right there with you though I will be taking the new exam within the next few weeks for CG.

Is your state using the segmented approach?

If so you can go ahead and schedule for the new exam if they are using the firm date there will be no granfathering and you will need meet the new requirements and resubmit everything.

The new exam will be based on the new educational requirements. You'll need to review any new areas you haven't studied.

Try some more classes.

Those times are the limit, not the expected completion time. The old tests will not be administered anymore as I understand it. Given how easy the certification test is for those who fully understand the job of appraising, I would suggest investing in a few extra classes before taking the new test. One big advantage of the new requirements is the courses are more specialized. Look for ones covering the questions you had trouble answering.

The old test is out the window tomorrow. After that it is the 150 question beauty that you are allowed five hours to complete. If you think the current test was hard, wait until next year.

First off, I wanted to tell you how bad I feel for you. That is such a bummer.

At a continuing education class I took in the summer, the instructor said that one of his friends that helped to develop the test said that it is going to be much more difficult than what is in place now.

You should formulate a plan for study now. Set aside time to make a schedule of what your plan of action will be. Decide all the topics you feel you need to study, and make a calendar of what you will study each day, and what you will review to keep it fresh in your mind. Make sure you schedule yourself one day off to prevent burn out, but stick to your calendar and study times so you don't go into the new test feeling short changed. Set aside some time each day or evening to really focus on the material, and make sure nothing comes between you and that study time. After all, the time you will devote to study is but a small allotment toward the rest of your career.

Good luck,
Deb

I doubt that. I took that basic income course from AIREA, and it was the hardest appraisal test I took in my life. The test was "here's the criteria, here's the question, and write the report.":new_all_coholic:

If you pass AI's courses, you will not fail the state exam, excepting certain people that just aren't good test takers.

The test supposedly is harder, but we really won't know until some take it and report back. I expect to be taking sometime in 2008.

Like David said we just won't know much about the new test until some folks take it. As I understand it the new test has more "real world" questions in which you will have to apply the theory you have learned. I'm sure this test will take longer but I an not sure the test will be harder. I am not a big fan of the theory-based tests in which the correct answer always seems to be the one that sucks the least. I can't imagine anyone will get to take the old test after the 1st.

One strategy that you might want to employ is wait a few months before taking the new test in order to find an educational provider offering a test crammer course based on the new test. No doubt many educational providers will be gearing up to provide such a course after they get feedback on the new test.

In a class I took in November the instructor passed along that the pass rate on the new test was around 40% of the licensed appraisers that were tested. He also said that to pass the new test you have to pass each "section" of the test which I believe covers various areas of the profession. This IMO will be the big hangup with passing the new test. You might pass the income section, but fail USPAP section.

I also received a e-mail from the Washington State board in November stating that anyone taking the new test may have to wait 2-3 months to hear if they have passed or not as they will not have a firm pass/fail score until enough people have taken the test.

With that I am glad I passed the test on the 27th! :icon_mrgreen:

This info is not too encouraging, but it's what I need to know so I can prepare myself.

How's this for getting screwed- I scheduled to take the old test the morning of the 29th. Myself and some other trainees were there 30 min. early. We waited... and waited... and our proctor never showed up. I talked with our commissioner this morning and she said we were out of luck and would have to take the new exam. At least my education and experience are still good here in TN.
