After seeing what Claude did by creating CADCraft (getartsoft.com), an AutoCAD-like software package, I decided I could relatively easily replace Chief Architect Home Designer Pro with my own toolset. (The problem is that Home Designer Pro is now $500+/year, and my current 2023 macOS version will eventually fall out of compliance with some new software version.) Of course it WILL NOT replace Home Designer Pro for everything, because it is overkill on the 3D features. But I am looking for something with all the features I have used over the past 25 years for appraisal floorplans.

1. The core code will be written in Rust, which is self-correcting as far as memory leaks go. But it will have some Angular and Python for the web interface.
2. It will run locally.
3. I will either provide it for free or, for a minimal one-time fee, something like $100-$200.
4. It will do complex "2.5D" floorplans and plat maps. "2.5D" means you can give it ceiling heights for floors, and it can calculate ANSI Z765 living area from the ceiling height.
5. You will be able to configure thickness and material in exterior and interior walls, and provide both exterior and interior dimensions.
6. I will calculate ANZI Z765 finished, living, and other building areas, as well as handle above/below grade issues.
....

The Rust code is 12 hours old; give me another month, as I am doing several major tasks at once.

==> Expect this more and more as time goes on.

And my big advantage here is that I have a ton of Chief Architect and Home Designer Pro floor plans going back 20+ years, for Claude to view and test on. That is what allows it to go forward fast on its own. - Plus I have photos to go along with the plans, if it gets that far.

It won't be open source, because it delivers critical living area calculations. We don't want people mucking around with that.
