The official response:

We are currently working with our attorneys to interpret this provision and therefore do not have a definitive answer at this time as to whether or not licensed appraisers will continue to qualify for the Roster. FHA guidance will be issued in the near future.
Grandfather clause ???

Even FHA doesnt know what the law means.

Dont left your left hand know what the right is doing

I am forced to the inescapable conclusion that Congress, in its haste to save the housing market, did not consult with FHA about the new housing bill. How else can you explain that they dont know what the law does, and if it makes significant changes to the roster?

I agree. This bill was poorly worded due to incomplete understanding of the appraisal process and appraiser qualifications. It was hastily contrived to answer the clamor for banking & lending reforms. I would think there will be revisions and adjustments. There are too many components which have been left open to interpretation. I don't think it was done intentionally but haste, misinformation and misunderstanding certainly are
evident. Let's wait and see how it all plays out.

You wish...You mean to say no FHA test is needed to perform an FHA appraisal , however , you must be state Certified to perform an FHA appraisal. Now that's government logic. The slight difference in the initial qualifications are moot after a couple of years of Licensing.A few more original hours of experience and a few more hours of education in the beginning does not elevate the Certified appraiser to a god like status , so please come down from the mountain and bless us all..........:peace:

No it just means that an appraiser took the time for the few more hours of additional experience and the time for a few more hours of additional education which may mean they take more time for a bit more analysis and a bit more thought.
Whatever the outcome is from FHA, becoming certfied cannot hurt you in the coming market place ... my advice is dont become certified at the potential demise of your buisness .... afterall its just a few more hours ... isnt it?

PE,

I agree. I also believe, although I am only guessing, that FHA may very well have to reinstate their exam to comply with this legislation.

I've come to the conclusion that several people on this forum have an absolutely childish fixation on this certification issue. You. and you know who you are, all should simply relax and quit being so overboard on your obviously passionate.self-developed importance over having a largely inconsequential certification.
