I'm in search of a new laptop to be used mainly in the office. No opposed to refurbished. My local computer guy is selling Dell Lattitude E6540's for $550. Specs are Windows 10 Pro, I7-4600M, 8 RAM, 500 gig SSD. Sounds a little on the high side compared to what I see on the web but he does go through them and offers a warranty. Just wondered if there are better deals out there. I don't want a desktop because this will also be used on the road from time to time. Also don't want a tablet.

Thanks for any input

Bill

No fan of Dell. I'd check with Amazon for refurbished , lots under $500 with 8gb and 1 TB
Thanks for the input. What brands are you happy with? I've had bad luck with two hp's in the past (hard drive crash in one and bad board in the other). My wife has a Thinkpad which has good ratings but hers is slow and there's tons of Lenovo bloat.

Asus has been good to me. Toshiba was a good machine. I have one 10 years old...weighs a ton from that era and slow but Lenovo has the best prices. I would certainly give the Surface a look see on the basis of what one of our IT posters has said about the brand line.

Do you guys use your laptop as your main computer to complete appraisal reports? I have a Dell XPS 13 and I like it. But find I can work easier and more efficiently on my desktop.

for appraisal work i only use the desktop. i use the laptop mainly for county board of review work; take it with me to the courthouse and in the field.

I was thinking about taking it out to the field. I guess you can fill out some of the forms and maybe use the sketcher. Look for some comps etc. I use the Ipad. But the software app from CF only lets you use it for the 1004.

Nope. I have 2 desktops and 3 laptops. one old, one very old (but with Win 7 pro which is nigh flawless) and one not so old (10win) but heavy. I can do so but mostly I use the laptops at my house or when presenting or traveling.
