New Office Computer Laptop/Desktop

If you have to spend exta and get an external monitor an keyboard, why not just get a desktop? Cheaper and more sturdy, and you can use your dell as a backup .
Already have the keyboard and monitor but I get what you're saying

i have everthing backed up, and a backup computer. it's slow now, so if my main computer went down i got time to redo a new one. but when really busy, you don't have the time frame to lose a day or two. and get backed up so everyone is angry. a backup comptuer is like insurance, or in my case it also let my wife have all the time she wanted, on her computer.
My Surfac Pro is my backup and all my files are backed up on OneDrive. I have an unlimited account so that helps. I don't use form software but do have a comp database that would need to be transferred but that doesn't take too long

I could use some guidance here. I'm just a one man shop and have typical requirements of my machine. I have a Surface Pro for field work but I'm using a Dell Insperion for my office computer and it is showing signs of age. A long time ago I used a desktop but I'm not sure if it is necessary these days as I'm getting along just fine with my office laptop. And, if the power goes out I don't lose my work while the generator takes its time kicking in. My Dell guy recommended the Latitude 5550 BSX which is about $1300 with 16 gb ram and 512 ssd. It comes with a 13 gen i7 processor. Sounds good to me but there are so many other options out there. If any of you have suggestions I'd sure love to hear them. This machine will be used with external monitor and keyboard so screen rez, camera, etc are meaningless. Thanks
I'm partial to Dell Workstation Laptops. Some of them you can have 2 hard drives on them, and if set up in the correct RAID....anything done on the computer get placed on both hard drives, so you have an automatic backup if one of them crashes.

I like the idea of getting something custom with no bloatware

FYI you can reinstall your version of windows direct from MS without the bloat. You activation key will work.

Don't know about W11, but it has made for a much better experience on prior versions

HP w-11 new one/ back up w-10 (old) at best buy under $500 for mine.
New 27" monitor $140 (HP also)

SHop till u drop, deals are everywhere........search for what U want..good luck

Wow, they do have quite a selection. I'll have to figure out what specs are most important and then can narrow it down
DELL Outlet has been the go-to place for me for years. I was struck by Ransomware 8 years ago and lost everything, replaced my desktop, wiped my existing desktop clean & installed new operating system, and now I'll be installing the new Windows 11 on my blank machine and keeping the old one for backup. It's kept the costs down and the flexibility up. I also have my current desktop backed up to an exterior portable drive, just in case. Got my latest laptop from DELL Outlet for less than $300 on sale with Windows 10 and free upgrade to Windows 11. I use that one when I'm traveling.

HP x360 is a great series of laptops. Paired with a HP Docking Station will make a great desktop replacement situation that can go mobile in a flash. They make so may options, you pretty much pick what you want, then shop around for the best price.
