Since installing DSL,about two weeks ago, I have not been able to hear any sounds out of the speakers. At first I thought that the installation had wiped out the sounds that I had selected. Today I went to a web site that shoud have had sound but could not hear anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may have gone wrong?

Cliff,

Installing DSL should have nothing to do with your sound.

When you click the "sound" icon on your task bar and adjust the sliding volume controls do you still have no sound?

Try going to your control panel and selecting "sounds and audio devices" and make sure all of your settings are correct and that you don't have it muted.

I tried what you said before I posted and still had no sound. Just for the heck of it I tried it again after reading your answer. Sure enough it now showed that it was muted. It now works. I know that the installing the DSL should not have changed the settings, but something did. I had to go back in and reset my passwords on many programs, including this forum. I still have one that will not keep in memory, but they all worked fine before. Now I :D just found that two of my e-mail adresses were not virus protected, while others were. I just changed that back to cover all my accounts and programs. Thanks again, this forum is great. :D :D

You might try reinstalling your sound card drivers. You may have to uninstall they first, or you might see if there is an updated sound driver. Network conflicts with sound cards are not uncommon keep in mind that the DSL connection is a network connection.

You would be amazed how many times this comes up in chat rooms...the answer is usually..."turn your speakers on". If you are using Adelphia DSL I believe there is something in the software that mutes the speakers on installation cuz it happened to me too.
