I personally don't believe their membership numbers are even accurate that they are reporting. The new AI president posted on linkedin last week about declining membership and she couldn't even filter properly using their own website. If you go on the AI website right now and search members it comes up with 9,782 names including anyone with a designation, a candidate or an associate member. There's 5,657 MAIs and 2,237 SRAs and some overlap between the two obviously. There's probably only 7-8k designated people right now.

She later posted that the discrepancy was due to the fact that there's MAI, non practicing that don't show up when you filter on the AI website. The probability of 3-4k non practicing MAI's paying dues every year is at or near 0%. In 2023 they said there was 16,000 members. That was probably a lie then too.

Also a side note when I filtered one of the first names that came up is a guy I know died last year. So it just begs the question how many of these appraisers are dead and paying dues?
