Oldtimers that remember Winsketch wanted :)

I've been with Bradford since the early 90's and have used Winsketch most of that time. Last week, I had a friend add some memory to my PC and the processor fried. He's still my friend. I was using XP and CF 6.9. We built a new faster PC with Win7 and CF 7.75. No matter what I do, I can't get Winsketch 7.8.2 to be recognized. I made it a tool and it works fine, but I don't know how to get the sketch to the appraisal file. I'm on the clock with RapidSketch for another few days before I have to buy the turkey. I know Apex is best, but I'm a pro using Winsketch and I would really like to keep using it, and cost is a huge concern right now. Will you please reach back into memory and tell me how to have CF recognize it? Does Win7 change the game? Thanks!

Pardon the obvious, but have you [by chance] contacted Winsketch or Clickforms tech support? That's the first place I'd check.

With Apex, if you do a new installation of your appraisal software, you have to download Apex afterwards so it knows which sketch program is being used.

Maybe reinstall you Win sketch program and it will now recognize your new appraisal software.

Bradford stopped relationships with Winsketch years ago and they won't/can't support it any longer. I've read that Jammin (Winsketch) requires a new download for $199 before they will help. I've tried reinstalling the sketch program, but I'm thinking Windows 7 is so different. Is also will not load my old Adobe Acrobat 4.0 which worked fine with XP.

I actually bought a copy of Winsketch years ago direct from Jammin...which is why I never switched to Apex. I can actually copy the whole file and move to a new machine. Suprisingly, though my copy is from maybe 2002 or earlier, it works fine even on Windows 7...I have a direct icon so that I can make a sketch then save the metafile of the sketch to paste into Word Perfect.

So under Program Files I have a Winsketch v7 folder. I copied to a jump drive and pasted the whole thing to my new computer under same. I have NCV but only had to fumble around the menus and preferences some to make it work. For clickfroms, there is a toolbar that should locate your sketchers, and my old clickforms had it there, I bet it can be set up from the toolbar or the perferences IF it can find it...

Thanks, I reinstalled WS to the Program Files, but CF 7.75 still doesn't see it. I don't see a toolbar to locate sketchers in this version, and under preferences, it says the path is automatically specified, meaning no user mickey mousing...

Winsketch 7 and above needs to be INSTALLED to correctly place some settings in the registry, and there are license files in the Windows folder (vskt**.ini) that need to be present.

This this. I had problems getting Apex to work with a 64 bit system.

Find your apex.exe file and change it to work in compatability mode to windows xp.
Here are the steps
go to C: drive than click to open
find Program Files (x86) click to open
find apex folder, click to open
find apexwin4.exe (i have apex 3 and the file for that is apexwin3.exe) click mouse button
(the other one not the mouse button that launches the file) to get it to show properties,
then find where it say compatibily and check box where is says run this program in
comparitability mode (windows xp Service Pack 3) that is how I have it working on my mac
in bootcamp which uses window 7.
