PAREA: Darn the torpedoes / 3 Sheets to the Wind

PAREA grads won't need a mentor. My guess is most will/are being hired by the big mills/AMCs. I imagine a chunk of them are doing the site inspections for hybrids/desktops as well.
I don't blame any individual for attempting to get credentialed this way. I for one am happy I got the benefit of a supervisor who gave a rip. She wasn't perfect, but had a good ethical baseline and good adjustment derivation strategies.

If the GSEs and large lenders don't care, I guess that's just where appraisers rate these days. If they do care, then we really don't have much to worry about from that perspective anyway. However....I think the the former is true. Too much 'data' stating appraisers do nothing more than parrot contract price, so who needs us anyway. The next RE crash/severe decline will tell the tale I suppose.

We are not doing brain surgery but its an appraisal on what is the most expensive purchase someone will make or close to it. It might not be the best analogy but if you were lending 6+ figures what would you prefer?
There is absolutely zero comparison with what we do compared to what a surgeon does. We're not saving anyone's life. Agree, disagree, doesn't matter. There is no comparison.

I agree 1,000%. The amount of appraisers who think our profession is anywhere near the level of doctors (or lawyers) is stunning.

Is there any education requirements?

Is there a certain amount of college courses, ged, high school diploma, 4 year degree required?

Same education requirements, PAREA replaced the appraiser’s classroom and field experience requirements.

one appraisal per day, 5 X 52 = 260, 'average' value 250,000, 260 X 250,000 = $65,000,000 million. :rof:
