Mike,

I have the blue signature too. It looks kind of cute. Like those old fountain pens we used in grammar school when you print it out on a HP 2000/2200. Only the mortgage morons don't like my fancy, scanned blue signature because they print the emailed reports on a cheapie black laser and the signature prints too light.

Try it, you'll see what THEY mean. It's really faded looking. Not impressive at all in black and white.

And I thought I was the cat's meow with that idea.

or printing out an original, performing the white out: number change operation
  then scanning it and there it goes!! with your John Hancock still proudly affixed!!

I believe this program that you mentions functions as a printer driver. The print function can be disabled in any PDF document. rendering this type of program useless.

Any of our appraisals can be scanned into the computer again after being printed out (by the client for instance.) It can be altered in a digital imaging program and resaved as a PDF. BUT, THE ORIGINAL DIGITAL SIGNATURE WILL NOT BE A PART OF THAT PROFILE. Acrobat allows for a separate security certificate to be provided to the recipient of a secure file. So any altered PDF file would not be validated when checked against that certificate.

Furthermore, Acrobat allows for self-signing encryption which requires persmissions on both sides of the transmission (sender, recipient). A lack of validation with the required permissions will keep the PDF document encrypted.

Done correctly, an Acrobat document is very secure. I can tell from the various posts however that probably 99% of appraisers aren't doing it right.
