I am looking to persue real estate appraisal education/training in the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania area. I have searched many links and have found only one school, Polley Associates. Does anyone know anything about this school or if there are any others in this area?

What type of general skills are required for being an appraiser? What are the pros and cons? Would I be able to get proper education/training and be able to keep my day job for the time being? What type of business insurance does one need? ;)

Thanks for any info you can give.

Cheryl,
I don't know anything about the school but the local chapter of the Appraisal Institute sponsors lots of courses in the Philadelphia area, check the AI web site. I suggest AI or IFA courses because they are good and because you can make contact with other appraisers in the area.

The main website for the NAIFA (National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers) is:

http://www.naifa.com

On that website you can find local chapters, educational offerings, chat rooms that are open to anyone, appraisal news, notices and all sorts of other interesting stuff.

I have taken courses from Polley and they do a good job. Also, check out the AI and IFA websites for courses.

If you feel like driving to north Wilmington in Delaware, New Castle County Board of Realtors sponsors a 75 hour class every January. I used to live in Montgomery County, the ride isn't too bad.
