Anyone using these in the field? And if so, what software are you using? Does it transfer all of the data into your desktop easily? I'm thinking about making that step but I want to hear more about them first.

Yes, I do too. My son gave me one for Christmas and it is still wrapped in plastic under my desk. I just bought WinTotal which does have software, but haven't even had time to get through a regular appraisal yet. It has slowed down a bit, so perhaps I can get to it, as I finally finished my tax information stuff and gave everybody their 1099's.

does anyone use the ACI pocket zoo? i just purchased it and it works great except for some reason i have no sketch program. i left a message for ACI to find out why i don't have it. that is one of the main parts of my appraisal that i wanted to only do once. other than that it is great, it syncs well, i create a template in ACI, export it to pocket zoo and sync it to my pocket pc.

Pocket pc may be on its way out, if ppc users could weigh in, that would be great.

The step up is the eo or tablet kiosk I believe the devices are called. You get larger screen area with these devices compared to a ppc to see the sketch better and they run full versions of the software. You would not have to pay for the ppc software. There should be more threads with good descriptions of these devices, I'm not as familiar with them.

Another route is the tablet pc. You have a laptop with a screen which folds down but outward, so the user can enter data with a pen. These also run full versions of the software and you get the benefit of a full set of keys if you want to type. Screen size much larger for sketching which is good. Generally however the tablets are a bit heavy and less easy to manuever.

With eo and tablet, you'll need the correct sketcher, regular progams are not designed right now with these uses built in.

I would not think of doing an inspection without my Pocket PC. There are other alternatives, but they don't fit in my pocket. I like walking up to the door with nothing in hand but a business card.

I have a Pocket PC (HP Jornada) with pocket total on it. It hasn't left my desk in three years! I bought it when I had an assistant but now that I work alone it doesn's save any time for me.

I don't understand, Mike. Why is that. I thought it saved the input time.

I looked at a demo once or twice ... strained my eyes trying to navigate through each screen. I guess it takes some time getting used to. Anybody have a screen shot with one using the appraisal software???
