Pole Barn Homes Cost

Post and Beam houses can vary substantially but typically they run (locally) about 10%-15% less than a conventional equal quality home. We have a couple of builders in my area that specialize in them. And you can find the cost estimates sometimes on line from builders.

The poles are erected in the ground, a floating slab is poured and the walls are filled in like normal and can be bricked on the outside if you pour a footing for them.

A lot of these are metal siding or simple plywood sheets. But some are bricked. And I only know the one below is what it is because the owner runs a company that builds these and this is his own home. They pretty much are no different from a low slab house. Footing detail on one that has a stem wall. (This is actually a barn but they do much the same thing with a slab) - DSC02892.JPG Post&Beam.jpg

Barnes Barn.JPG Stev_cabin.jpg PS - If you are actually referring to a barn converted to a dwelling - (i.e.- it looks like a barn) then Morton Buildings etc. have tons of specs around and you can find on line sites where you specify one and it can give you a rough estimate of the cost. This is a Morton Building, half is (heat/cooled but unfinished) shop and about 2400 SF is dwelling (interior good) and cost $240,000 to build about 2004.

FYI, we have a number of barn/homes that are light steel frames and a friend of mine is building a cabin in the hills in N-Central Arkansas that is steel frame with fake wood siding. Right on a good trout stream. This is a pix of the garage going up, but the dwelling (foreground) is similar kind of structure.
