You can vote multiple above. Commercial appraisal designations include:

MRICS - Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
ASA - American Society of Appraisers
CCIM - CCIM Institute
CRE - Counselors of Real Estate
MAI - Appraisal Institute
CAE - International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO)
ARA - American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers
GAA - National Association of Realtors
FRICS - Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

LOL, Troll
Your poll asks the questions without an accurate response for everyone. For most of us, none of those apply.
Before licensing, it was the way to go. And a lot of people locally who were brokers (the other requirement) 'certified' through folks like the NAREA - famous for "designating" Tobias the Cat - a real cat in case you never heard the story. NAREA is still around, and you can get your CREA for what little it is worth. Or, you could have joined the NAMA and became a Master Appraiser ... until all the Dean family died. No Nama Nomo.

Your reputation is not enhanced by simply becoming a 'designated' member of anything. Your reputation depends entirely upon your work. No one uses you on the strength of your authority via a designation.

That's rich. Four threads on the same subject in 2 days. Kind of curious activity. Is this to help you in a decision making process?
Surveying fellow commercial appraisers, and also sharing that there are good alternatives to the MAI and Appraisal Institute. The Appraisal Institute has too much leverage over appraiser's clients.

Like others have said. It is a matter of marketing and exposure. 30+ years in the business and hear very little if anything about the alternative designations and their respective organizations. With the exception of AI and NAR. I am not a member of the AI and have never signed up for their e-mails. But get regular e-mails from the local and national. Not a thing from the other organizations

That's the odd thing. I get AI notices, but I've taken more ASFMRA and ASA courses than AI courses but get nothing from them. I have to look up their offerings.
