I don't know how you read into the parallel I drew that it was some specific post-wall hag or that she was an appraiser or that she was working toward her MAI. But somehow you did - that's amazing. I'm just hoping you aren't assuming my reference to the post-wall hag had anything to do with you.

Lol. I get your point. The County Assessor adjoining the county I live in (Davidson-Nashville) has been in search of a commercial appeals appraiser for the past 6 months. The position pays $100,000 and is the same exact job I did for 9 years at Shelby County (Memphis) which is a larger jurisdiction. The posting says " Certified General and/ or MAI and at least 2 years commercial appraisal experience, while at the same time, "knowledge of IAAO Standards of Mass Appraisal is desired". CAE is the highest appraiser designation you can earn as a member of IAAO. They made it damn hard for me to earn it too. I'm thinking about dumping it, just like I dumped AI years ago. It is meant for some frat boy, obviously. I don't even bother applying as it was written specifically for someone.
The CAE is an awesome designation to have. They should be requesting a CAE instead of MAI. I agree, the CAE is a very highly regarded designation, and very challenging to earn it. Hold on to it, it is a great accomplishment.

Most state chapters with the ASFMRA have a CE course or 2 CE courses in each state each year. You should contact the Ark State Chapter and ask them to put you on their mailing list. For farm appraisal folks, the net working is invaluable.

Yes. And that entails travel invariably. I've taken AI and ASFMRA courses in Denver, Albuquerque, Ruidoso, Murfreesboro, TN, Ardmore. But again, the membership is sparse, meetings rare or poorly attended, it requires an overnight stay or 3 in the case of some classes. Land in Transition class (I've had it) is in Kingfisher, OK...250 miles away. Renewable Energy class - Michigan.

So, the cost of the class is inconsequential when the total cost of motel and travel is considered.

BTW, I've taken my last CE. I will retire in June 30, 2026 if I don't return to room temperature sooner.
