Prices going up

Are higher egg prices boosting profits?

gg producers blame the bird flu outbreak for driving prices to record highs, but critics believe giant companies are taking advantage of their market dominance to profit handsomely at the expense of budget-conscious egg buyers.

Advocacy groups, Democratic lawmakers and a Federal Trade Commission member are calling for a government investigation after egg prices spiked to a record average of $4.95 per dozen this month. The Trump administration did unveil a plan this week to combat bird flu, but how much that might ease egg prices — a key driver of inflation — remains to be seen.

“Donald Trump promised to lower food prices on ‘Day One’, but with egg prices skyrocketing out of control, he fired the workers charged with containing bird flu. Working families need relief now,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren said in a statement.

NO PITY TO TRUMP VOTERS WHO THOUGHT TRUMP WAS GOING TO LOWER FOOD PRICES ON DAY ONE.

Here we go again with the price gouging BS. They culled 10 million chickens in Ohio. That's a lot of eggs not being laid

hey culled 10 million chickens in Ohio
The typical commercial hen lays 300 eggs annually. So, 3 billion eggs that the companies did not sell in a year? Whatever. Gasoline or eggs, it is always gouging...or Trump... no, both. Musk certainly must secretly own a Chicken company.

The price of eggs has a lot (most) to do with the flu, but it also is impacted by, higher labor costs, freight costs, feed costs, VACINATION COSTS, machinery costs, packaging costs, BIO SECURITY costs, and the list can go on. They each only add a "small or moderate" increase but when in the aggerate adds up more than many realize.

They are making good profits, Econ 101, supply and demand impacting prices. No one complained when the egg cholesterol scare many years ago drove the prices so low they lost a lot of money. Many did not survive the lack of demand. The birds cannot just turn on and off the egg production cycle.

I do have a bit of inside information, I am a friend of the largest egg producer in a particular state. I think they may know what they are talking about, I really do.

Most do not have a clue only blaming "Nando the King" and DJT for the egg price increases.

Trump was supposed to lower egg prices on day 1....
He wasn't looking for excuses from this Forum....

"The birds cannot just turn on and off the egg production cycle."

Someone should pray to Lord Trump to change the chicken egg production cycle....

Eggs are the metaphor for the 21% inflation rate during the Biden Admin. THAT was and still is the big problem for consumers. Not eggs all by themselves.

Trump downplays business concerns about uncertainty from his tariffs and prospect of higher prices

When questioned whether he was expecting a recession in 2025, Trump responded: “I hate to predict things like that. There is a period of transition because what we’re doing is very big. We’re bringing wealth back to America. That’s a big thing.” He then added, “It takes a little time. It takes a little time.”

DIDN'T WE HEARD THAT WORD - TRANSITION - BEFORE? WHY AREN'T MAGAS COMPLAINING ABOUT INFLATION AND IT WILL TAKE A LITTLE TIME?

Remember the post I put up about on going chicken/egg shortages? I was just watching the news and we have lost 46 million laying hens in the last year. I used the number 20 million in my post-it is so much worse then I stated.
I'm seeing all kinds of posts asking why eggs are either difficult to locate or VERY expensive. Here is what you need to know...We have lost over 20 million laying hens to bird flu - or from being culled (killed) because of fear of bird flu. In order to replace those 20 million hens-we have to locate healthy hens - put them with healthy roosters - to produce fertile eggs. Hens lay one egg a day. It would require 40 million fertile eggs to be hatched. It takes 28 days for chicken eggs to hatch. Of that 40 million - half would be males - that would immediately be culled. The females that remained take 5-6 months to reach maturity in order to begin laying eggs. Commercial egg layers are only used for about nine months and then are culled. It will take about two years to get back to where we were before the bird flu. It isn't price gouging and it isn't some diabolical plan to deprive people of eggs. Supply and demand will keep them scarce and will keep the price for a while.

Are eggs expensive now or have they been too cheap in the past?
King sized candy bar - $3+
Energy drinks - $5-8
Starbucks - $6-10
Cell phones - $1000-2500
Bottle of pop - $2-4
Eggs are the "perfect food"...... we as producers have trained the American public to want "cheap" for necessities and "instant" everything.
Are eggs more expensive now?. Yes. but so are inputs to produce the eggs. Feed, vet care, housing, labor etc..... so the profit margin remains the same.

So interesting that some folks mo longer hold the President responsible for high prices....
TRUMP IS A GOD....
(Not an Old or New testament one)....
AMEN....

If not made outside US, iphone would costs more than $1,000.
Some poor people would still buy iPhones with the affordable special monthly fees. I'm paying the monthly fee too though I don't really need to.
The new iphones cost over 1000 - have for years - the only reason so many can afford them is the carriers finance the purchase. The owners and shareholders keep the profits from overseas production, with a crumb passed on to the consumer.
