Problem with Qualifying Education. it's not offered!

I dont think you can use online classes for certification purposes, at least in my state.

Call Lincoln (800) 531-5333 see if they have anything available in Flordia.

Are you referring to Lincoln Graduate Institute?

If so, then the classes are garbage except for a few instructors. However, I think that the good ones (land appraisal, farm appraisal) have now left them.

No matter your opinion of the Appraisal Institute, they provide the best classes.

Tim,

You're gonna love St Louis in July! There just isn't a whole lot of choice.

Good luck!

Pat

Tim,

You are not being penalized. The state did not say everyone else gets a free pass, but Tim has to do something different. You made you choices and that is that. I just laughed when you stated that the state should except that no one is offering these classes so that should be an excuse. Where is it written that the courses you need will be offered at your convenience.

As far a simple answer, I gave it to you. You just don't like the answer. Gone are the days where you have every Tom, Dick and Harry offering QE.

Also to say that the requirements are the same as before just with different names demonstrates your ignorance as to what was required and what is required.

I also note that you are a trainee, but in your profile you have "Certified Residential Appraiser". Why?

Tim,

Life ain't fair.

Dennis,

You laughed at sarcasm, so you what you perceived is what was intended.

I never suggested that the courses should be offered at my convenience, I even mentioned that when I registered, I counted on many cancellation and scheduling changes, which is exactly what happened. The reason for this thread is not to whinge nor am I filled with woe, I just wanted to know if anyone could offer some practical advice, perhaps if they faced the same problem, ad nauseum.

As for the requirements being the same... take what you will from that. If you had taken the classes and the exams as I have, you would have noticed that instructors are patterning it after the AB-II courses, with a lot of similar material. I didn't make this up, I am just taking the instructor's comments as the authoritative truth, so to speak. Again, please read this with a bit of cynicism, I am a pessimist, allright? Don't be offended.

As for my profile saying "Certified Residential," well, when we signed up (my associate and I) we decided to do that. No real reason there, other than he wanted to browse this site and you need to register in order to do that.

Pat -- Never been to MO in my life, but looks like I will have to visit. Not too worried about the weather, Florida is... too hot. I just flew back here this week and well, I sure miss where I was before :/

TC -- Yes, life isn't fair. But I don't think any of this falls into that category.

Back to business: Can anyone offer me information on what "Florida Specific Materials" consist of? The only mention of it that I have found consists of 25 hours, USPAP, Florida Law, and Trainee/Supervisor Rules (that actually adds up to 24). However... that 25 also whimsically jumped to 40, if correspondence is correct.

You are screwed. I predicted as much. The "new" rules won't make appraisers one whit better and slowly and surely, TAF and their minion components are taking over the appraisal industry from the top down and making the states do the dirty work. They wanted to reduce the number of appraisers and that is exactly what they will get. fewer and fewer appraisers, more and more reliance upon "alternative" products. Not because they are cheaper but because they can be relied upon to exist. As numbers decrease appraisal licenses will increase dramatically, something like gas prices. And at some point these 'franchise' license holders will be able to dictate price to the few customers who still are required to use them - and they will be AMCs who will pay your license fee for you. Look for huge increases in pricing way down the line when all appraisers are forced under the AMC umbrella.

QUOTE]

You may not know, but probably should, an appraiser should NEVER do anything misleading.
I think you may want to change your profile to reflect your current status.

If you truly desire to become an appraiser, you will need to overcome all the issues you face.

It will certainly create respect and protection you will have and want for your license.

Good luck.

Terrel -- Good response of sorts, but I am still surprised that no one else seems to be going through the same process.

Bill -- "We" means more than one, my associate is certified, alas I ended up using the account to post this question. I'm sorry. I see your reply is in earnest but a bit condescending.

I just wish that I could get some practical answers (you know, solutions), to the question(s) at hand. Nonenetheless, thank you all for your replies.

If there are no offerings in FL and online qualifying education isn't allowed in FL, you best bet is to take the AI course, though you'll obviously have to travel. Just make sure the AI course has been approved in your state prior to taking the course (a simply but important formality).

BTW, appraiser status has been fixed.

I did not read your post to indicate the associate was certified. Not trying to be condescending, only helpful.
