what is the process for becoming an approved FHA appraiser in California? I found the application on the FHA website but there is no mention of the test. thanks :new_newbie:

There is no test. Fill out the online application and eventually you will be approved.

One problem though. The senate version of the FHA bank bailout bill has a provision that all FHA appraisals must be done by a certified appraiser. A license won't cut it if that provision is in the final bill.

thanks, do you know how long that will take after I submit the app

I received info from HUD last month that online apps are taking 10 to 12 weeks to process due to the volume.

They will not notify you either. You have to check the online roster to see when they put you on.

Don't worry, there is no test anymore.
Don't worry, you don't have to demonstrate that you are actually competent to do FHA appraisals.
Don't worry, it does not matter if you have even bothered to learn the FHA appraisal guidelines.
Don't worry about anything, just sign up and, assuming that you have a valid appraiser's license or certification and are not in default on any US govenrment debts, you will almost assuredly be approved.
It may take a while for the FHA to actually process your application since they are overwhelmed by all of the applications from the favorite appraiser skippies of the subprime mortgage brokers and mortgage lenders who are now busy turning FHA into the new subprime.

However, please do the taxpayers and yourself a favor.....if you do not know the FHA guidelines inside and out, please take the time and neccesary steps to educate yourself and make the effort to become fully competent before you do any FHA appraisals....I would also suggest partnering up with an experienced FHA appraiser for at least the first few FHA appraisals you perform.

and the "New Subprime" train just keeps rolling down the tracks...
