Yes, but if you want to get into commercial appraisal (and only have residential experience) you'll probably have to take anything you can get. The best opportunities are in NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco and LA. Good luck.
 
I would not give up 65K + benefits in the hopes of making 100K in 5 years...
 
I strongly suggest you purchase Visual Valuation from the Appraisal Institute's online bookstore. It will give you a better idea of whats to come in the future. We're going to have a convergence of data standards which will eliminate a lot of the duplication of effort in the real estate sector, permit greater use of statistical methods and increase productivity to the point where in ten years we'll need less than half the number of commercial appraisers we have working today. In five years I think voice recognition software will be integrated into report writing software and the report writing software available on the open market will be a lot better, probably as good or better than what Cushman & Wakefield's appraisers use today.
