whats the easiest way to quote just a snippit out of someones post?

If you want the name above the quote just hit the reply with quote thingy and delete what you don't want.

If you don't care if the name is in the quote just highlight what you want, copy it, open a reply window and paste. Then highlight the text and click the surround with quote button (the little icon between the picture button and th # sign).

I simply use the quote button at the end of the post and delete whatever text is unnecessary. If the post is long, I simply copy the necessary line and manually type in the quote tags around the text.

thanks i did the delete approach, just seeing if that was the best way...

Lanny,

In the reply message box there is an icon that looks like a balloon for comic strips on the right side of the icons (about a third of the way over from the left). This button will place quotes around text that you have highligted inside the message box. Copy and Paste the potion of the text into the message box first, then highlight/select it in the reply message box, and then select the icon.

If you want the persons name to appear with the quote, go to the begining of the quote where the phrase "Quote" is in barckets. Inside the right bracket after the word Quote insert an equal sign "=" and type the name of the person. This is the html code necessary to perform what your looking for.

Already answered by others, but if you want to get real carried away and quote multiple people and have their quote include their name and the 'jump back' arrow beside their name, you can do the following:

1. Click the quote button under the first post you want.
2. Highlight all the text in the reply box.
3. Ctrl-C to copy it.
4. Tab out to your word processor.
5. Ctrl-V paste the text.
6. Tab back to the forum and click the 'back' button of your browser.

Repeat this for each one you want to quote. Leave the one you want as the first quote of your message until last. Then 'quote' reply to it and it will be in the reply box. This one you don't have to cut & paste.

Type in your reply to that and then cut and paste the other messages from your word processor into your ongoing reply message and reply to each as needed.

If you want the name above the quote just hit the reply with quote thingy and delete what you don't want.

If you don't care if the name is in the quote just highlight what you want, copy it, open a reply window and paste. Then highlight the text and click the surround with quote button (the little icon between the picture button and th # sign).
Quoted as a sample of this method.

Quoted for the same purpose.

This lets you reply to more than one poster whilst grouping thoughts together. (You'll notice a ; and some numbers after the poster's name. This is what links that quote back to the original message.)

Also, be sure to use the 'preview' button before the 'submit' button to see that you don't have mis-matched or broken quotes. This can happen if you accidently delete as little as one [ or ] from the quote area.

When reading messages with the 'jump back' arrow, you can click it to see the original post. When finished, click the 'back' button of your browser to return to the post you were reading.

I realize this is probably more than you wanted to know, but anything worth doing is worth over doing.
