Does anyone here carry an RAA designation from NAR?

Residential Accredited Appraiser

The Residential Accredited Appraiser (RAA) designation is awarded to appraisers whose education and experience exceed state appraisal certification requirements and is supported by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS.

CRITERIA for the designations are:
REALTOR or Institute Affiliate membership in the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. An Institute Affiliate member must be a designee of one of the following 5 NAR affiliates: IREM, CCIM Institute, RLI, CRE or SIOR.

State Certified Residential or General Appraiser for RAA designation (In those few states where the Certified Residential classification is unavailable, the requirement is state Licensed for the RAA designation.)

A minimum of 1,000 hours experience in addition to the experience required to obtain state certification.

Tested education: 45 hours of tested course work in addition to the Appraiser Qualification Board's education requirement at the time of certification.

A one time application fee of $100.00 per designation (which includes a non-refundable processing fee of $25.00), PLUS the quarterly prorated amount of the $100 annual maintenance fee for each designation, as listed below:
First Quarter (January - March): $100
Second Quarter (April - June): $75
Third Quarter (July -September): $50
Fourth Quarter (October - December): $25

For ensuing years, the fee is $100 annually for designation maintenance
The program was approved by NAR's Board of Directors at the 1993 Annual Convention. The first designations were awarded at the 1994 Midyear Meeting with approximately 1,100 members maintaining one or both designations.
 
I looked into this years ago when they started it up. I personally think they do it for the membership and the fees. It's a realtor's group. Have you EVER met a realtor who really understands what we do? Me neither. I can't see how the designation would impress anyone. JMHO.

I'll be interested to see the comments on this thread. A couple of times I emailed the MLS link to make inquries and each time the email address was out of service.
 
They are just selling letters like a couple other organizations. Anyone who has been appraising for a year would qualify for this useless "designation".

Perhaps you're not familiar with the prior appraisal organization that was part of NAR: the American Institute of RE Appraisers. AIREA, as they were known, designated MAIs and RMs and merged with the Society of RE Appraisers to form the AI.

Perhaps, also, you are unaware of the recent (maybe current) efforts of AI to explore a merger or re-association with NAR?
 
If you folks don't know any Realtors that understand what we do, you should get out more. Some of the people I've known with the best inate sense of value have been RE agents.

While I don't know much about NAR's appraisal wing, I do understand that affiliation with NAR does have its advantages, both political and brand wise.
 
The RAA and GAA were never recognized as legitimate appraisal designations by the general appraisal community
