Mr. (Ms.?) London,

Reality Check: If our peer pressure causes you to improve your written communication skills, we just did you a large favor. Allowing yourself to look weak in this regard, due to your own lacking in spelling and grammer, is not something I can see as a good way to impress clients. Because, now and then, clients actually do read our reports.

Webbed.

My bold.

Webbed please, if you are going to lecture on spelling and GRAMMAR please use the correct spelling!! I should know as I was caught in the same faux paus on this very board :rof:

Dear London,

This board is full of yucksters and fun pokers. At one point or another, we all get a stab at it. Don't take it personally, as you'll get your chance too one day. :) It's all meant in fun, but Webbed does have a good point.

Dangle your participles, end a sentence in a preposition, use a double negative.....most of us won't even catch it, let alone call you on it as we probably do the same thing ourselves. The spelling and language errors are a bit more glaring, and since much of our job entails good written communication, we must put on our thick skins and hope to learn from the peer corrections. :icon_mrgreen:

Hang in there!!

That is something that never happens here. Not never I tell you. :)

"Underwriter: Appraiser to explain why the market is in decline."

Dear Underwriter,

As noted in the original appraisal, homes are selling for less now than they were previously. This, in layman's terms, is called a decline. G.E.D. education is available from many sources. Let me know if you need assistance in locating same.

Sincerely,

The Appraiser.

@London,

Would you care to post what the specific requests were? The group may be better able to help you if that is disclosed.

I've been fortunate that I have always received a copy of the review and was able to address the issues point by point. And also, fortunately, I had covered my bases well and was able to pick the review apart.

Mr. Austin,

And since it's "Faux pas" you've done it twice now! ;)

Webbed.

Webbed, don't be a grammar Nazi! Especially don't be a grammar Nazi when you make a faux pas doing so. This is an informal forum.

CWD,

Now I go and leave London a great opening for a come back and you go and steal it like that! Where's your manners? ;)

I'll stand by my point however. Most people willingly overlook occasional spelling errors or typos. But once those errors go beyond certain points they are no longer overlooked. And one major difference is I appreciate being caught in the act. Because it's a good thing in order to not repeat the item(s) again. In spite of that, you will notice I did not itemize all of London's errors either. Just one I found funny. I laugh at my own postings at times and have to correct them. Often I do quite a bit of editing of my posts over mistakes I have made. I think it's great practice and skill development myself.

Also, I dispute this PUBIC forum is informal to the point that all of us should not be trying hard to hone our communication skills when participating. Do you disagree?

I welcome London to the group here. I just think there was very much a good amount of learning that can be had from all the responses, even the ones that did not answer his question. I thank you for correcting me.

Webbed, it's pretty informal. I usually read and respond in the morning with a cup of coffee and in my underwear. But, I don't think anyone has come here looking to have their grammatic skills improved. If a poster wants to hone his/her skill then they will recognize their errors and change the way they communicate. I do, all the time. Sometimes I want to type off a quick message looking for an answer or replying to someone. I don't want to have to spend 20 minutes constructing the message and proof reading it as if I'm getting ready to transmit an appraisal.

See? I was right! ... ;)
