I'm looking at the possibility of expanding into adjacent states which I'm located near the border of. I was curious how reciprocity actually works - do the other states (in my case, Indiana and Wisconsin) just acknowledge that you've completed Illinois requirements and just say, for lack of better words, "that's good enough complete an appraisal in our state?" Would you need to actually receive licensure in that state, but the pre-reqs carry over?

Obviously competency is something large to overtake, but I'm just curious bout the bare basics at the moment. Any comments from appraisers doing something similar in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Kyle--you work enough!! What are you thinking!!??:rof:

I realize that was absolutely NO help, but I couldn't resist.

I have to have a license in both states. Missouri and Kansas. All I had to do was apply for the Kansas License under reciprocity, pay the required yearly fees, and present proof of continuing education requirements.

I do have to follow and keep up with laws for both states as they vary slightly. Renewal periods are different as well.

Check with the states that you're seeking reciprocity FROM.

Currently Illinois has reciprocity with the following states:

AZ - Arizona (153 & 156 only)

CA - California

CT - Connecticut

IN - Indiana (153 & 156 only)

KY - Kentucky

MN - Minnesota

MO - Missouri (153 & 156 only)

NE - Nebraska

NH - New Hampshire

OH - Ohio

OR - Oregon

WI - Wisconsin (153 & 156 only)

WY - Wyoming
