Recomendations on a new laptop?

Here are the latest Dell Vostro laptops -- the 1500 performance package looks like a great deal. XP Home, Intel dual core processor, 250 GB HD, 2 GB Ram, for $589.

Something to think about -- it takes 2GB of Ram to make Vista run as well as XP with 512MB. Vista is a huge memory hog, and it has serious backwards compatibility problems. While it does work and has some nice features, the consensus opinion is that Vista is the biggest OS mistake Microsoft has ever made. Whether the next MS OS solves the problem remains to be seen -- but it definitely will not be called Vista.

I love my Lenovo Thinkpad X61 Tablet convertible , it is a powerful small Tablet/Laptop - the screen is small but the resolution is so good that it can be seen in direct sun light and text is very clear. Use mine everyday on every inspection but it could easily replace my tower pc, remember when you are at home it is a cinch to plug in your laptop to a Monitor, check out docking stations.
