Does anyone have any recommendations or know of any continuing ed geared around solar? Most pv systems I've come across are leased but I'd like to know more about how to adjust for owned systems.

There is a good study completed by University of Georgia that gives suggestions solar valuation. The FHA also offers opinions on solar, these two together will help.

Be careful as to how the systems are addressed by the writer of the course. Some writers are advocates for solar/green and ignore the economics, financial impact. Example from my own experience: a subdivision was built, 'green high-efficiency' construction, all the bells and whistles except for solar. New cost was a good 25% higher than competing homes of similar design, finish. At resale, no premium was paid, seller lost a lot against going-in cost. As to solar, we looked at a solar owned for a 1800 SF home. Cost was $42K (got docs). Over the probable holding period of the home, discounted return on utility cost was approximately 1/3 of cost which fit nice
Into the final sale price of the home. Yet advocates will often tout the 'savings' while ignoring the financial realities (return on investment.
