Robert Bruss--Part II

I guess Mr. Bruss is...who he is. I do not seek out his columns, nor will I likely kindle any efforts to do so. However, Freedom-of-Speech allows him to say, or be printed, to the extent that he is heard, or read. If one does not like what he says, or gets printed, or stands for, then one simply goes elsewhere for information, insight or entertainment. Kind of like the rubbish on many a TV program. Grab the remote, and click to the next option. We're not going to change things, and you can not change people (after about the age of 12)......but, if we learn that Mr. Bruss is about to start-up a former and defunct nuclear reactor he has in his back yard, or decides to turn away inspectors from the U.N. who ring the front door bell at his house.....then perhaps at that time he will deserve closer attention from all of us.

Oooo... Oooo!

I want to be the one that decides whether I like what he writes and if I don't like it..... he doesn't get paid!!!

Doesn't matter that it would be illegal for him to write anything under those conditions!

:2gunfire: :2gunfire: :2gunfire:

Cuff him!

After further research into the writings of, and background of Bob Bruss, I must say I'm appalled!

According to Bobs bio; Bruss is a California Real Estate attorney and a real estate broker as well as a former director of the National Association of Real Estate Editors. Bruss is the winner of the 1997 Norman Woest Outstanding California Real Estate Educator Award. With qualifications like these, Mr. Bruss' recent comments are inexcusable.

Couldn't a complaint be filed with the CA State BAR? If so by whom? Isn't it a violation of an attorney's code of ethics to advise a reader or readers to "have a frank conversation about the appraiser's opinion of your home's market value. If you don't like the answer, don't pay the appraiser." This kind of advice certainly flies in the face of the Realtors Code of Ethics!

I feel Mr. Bruss owes it to his readers, and the entire appraising community to print a retraction, and an apology is certainly in order.

What is behind Mr. Bruss' perverse obsession with Real Estate Appraisers anyway? Why the repeated caustic remarks & attacks on an entire profession? Doesn't Mr. Bruss realize--making others look bad isn't the way to make himself look better?

Disgusted

FYI - appraisal authors like Wm. Ventolo have books which Bruss has wrote an endorsement for. As much as I might disagree with his remarks, he is free to speak his mind and certainly there are plenty of appraisers who would kowtow to his demands. The fact he asks is no crime. The fact appraisers do comply does violate confidentiality rules. Uh...that's our problem, not his. :agrue:
